On the heels of selling out the middle front roll of his anticipated London O2 Indigo concert on 3rd May 2024, Ghanaian rap star Medikal has ambitions to build deeper bonds between the UK and Afrobeats music culture.
Medikal explained that while Afrobeats has exploded into a global phenomenon over the last decade, permeating mainstream music across markets, he believes London still harbors an untapped opportunity for growth.
"This show is going to be legendary not just for me, but for Afrobeats as a whole. I see my performance as a milestone event to spotlight Afrobeats for my British fans," he explained in an interview with Merqury Quaye on Hitz FM.
Medikal promised fans something different that goes beyond the regular artistry into entertainment and comedy.
To bridge connections between the energetic, infectious rhythms of Afrobeats and his diaspora audience, Medikal is crafting a setlist of fan favorites from the genre's leading stars. He plans to blend popular tracks from genre stylists with his up-tempo catalog of songs.
Given the swift sell-out of prime floor seats for the upcoming event, excitement around Medikal's bridging mission is already building.
By the night's end, thousands of new London fans would be moved by the Afrobeats culture.
