The 2020 Campaign Manager for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Joshua Alabi, has criticised the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government regarding the recent power challenges facing the country.

According to him, despite the NDC having left surplus power capacity in 2016 for the NPP, their mismanagement has resulted in the current power crisis.

He emphasised that since assuming office in 2016, the Nana Addo-led government has failed to make any significant additions to the energy sector, contributing to the recent challenges.

"Since they came into power, they have not made any improvements to the energy sector. That's why I say it could have been prevented. Good management would have avoided this," he noted.

Professor Alabi also emphasised the importance of implementing a 24-hour economy as a beneficial initiative to tackle the growing unemployment in the country - stating that this policy would enable companies to adopt shift systems, thereby creating more job opportunities for people.

He also said that if the NDC wins the 2024 election, they will immediately begin outlining plans, including considerations for taxes and utility bills, to facilitate the swift implementation of this policy.

The 2020 Campaign Manager expressed confidence that introducing such a policy would significantly improve the country's economic situation and urged Ghanaians to vote for the opposition party in the December elections.

He made these statements at a donation of a power plant on behalf of Former President John Mahama to the Ashanti West Assemblies of God Church at Tanoso, a suburb of Kumasi.

He stated that the gesture fulfilled a promise made by Mr Mahama to the Church in January 2024 and would greatly assist the Church, especially during the current power challenges.

Leaders and members of the Church commended the former president and prayed for his success in all his endeavours.
