The Minority in Parliament has stated that a future National Democratic Congress (NDC) government will not push through with the ENI-Springfield unitization if John Mahama wins the 2024 election.
According to minority Spokesperson on Mines and Energy John Jinapor, an NDC administration would resolve the dispute within one month of assuming office.
The government's efforts to unite the two oil fields were subject to arbitration, with the tribunal ruling against Ghana.
Speaking in Parliament, Ranking Member on the Mines and Energy Committee John Jinapor explained that a future NDC government would allow both producers to operate their individual fields independently.

The minority spokesperson also noted that, following the judgment, the Attorney General's office and some media outlets disseminated false information.
Mr Jinapor emphasised that, based on the tribunal's ruling, the earlier directive by the Minister of Energy, Mr Peter Amewu, is null and void.
He noted that the tribunal ruled in favour of ENI and directed that Ghana should reverse that directive.
“It was avoidable. We cautioned them. Civil society cautioned them. President Mahama cautioned them. We knew we were heading for defeat because that decision lacked basis. It was not backed by any law, and it was not backed by common sense.”.
Mr Jinapor noted that the government ignored their counsel, leading to this embarrassing situation.
“What it does is that it sends the wrong signal because nobody would want to do business with Ghana if you are seen as a hostile investment nation, but more importantly, we have lost so much revenue. If we had resolved this matter in 2020, we would have been producing more oil.”
