The Incumbent Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency in the Volta Region has said that his constituency would witness unprecedented development during his next term in office.

Mr Ablakwa indicated that he aims to undertake an aggressive development agenda that would surpass what he delivered over the last 12 years serving as the mouthpiece of the constituency in Parliament.

He made this promise while addressing supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Battor after filing his nomination to contest the parliamentary elections.

“The good works that I have done from 2013, I want to pledge that from 2025, January 7 to midnight of January 6, 2029, I will deliver more than what I have done from 2013. Our agenda for 2025 is for North Tongu to see progress.

“I want to assure my constituents that I will never take their support for granted. I am promising them even more hard work. Even more impact, more loyalty, and more progress than I have ever been committed to as your Member of Parliament”, he said.

He indicated that the comprehensive resettlement of victims of the Akosombo and Kpong Dam floods would be given special attention to end the suffering of “his dear constituents”.
He announced a GH₵100,000 seed capital for a Special Emergency Rent Fund to support the 1,360 victims currently being housed in tents to rent decent accommodation.

Mr Ablakwa stressed that he would ensure all persons who have their properties and livelihoods affected by floods are duly compensated and have their livelihoods restored, within the next four years.

“For my next term, my priority will be the total resettlement and total compensation of all victims of the VRA spillage of the Akosombo and Kpong Dams. There shall be no rest until the last victim of the VRA spillage from the Akosombo Dam is compensated. That will be my priority in my next term”, he said.

He further indicated that the constituency would receive a fair share of development projects under the next John Mahama government.

He mentioned the revival of defunct industries, road infrastructure improvement, and other initiatives aimed at enhancing livelihoods and promoting the growth of the local economy.
Mr Ablakwa outlined that the Aveyime-Asutsuare, Aveyime-Mefe-Dove, and other road projects contained in the NDC 2024 manifesto would be constructed to enhance the transportation of goods and services.

“Under President Mahama and Vice President Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, I know that this country and this constituency are going to get all the projects that we deserve. The Aveyime Rice Factory will be revived, and Juapong Textiles will be revived. Our Volivo Bridge, that project for which President Mahama secured funding, will be constructed” he said.

He expressed hope in the proposed 24-hour economy policy, Women's Development Bank, and other policies earmarked to be implemented by the next NDC government to create jobs and improve the livelihoods of Ghanaians.

“Certainly, the 24-hour economy will offer jobs for our young people. The Women’s Development Bank is going to offer capital, and interest-free loans to support our women traders so that they can expand their businesses and they can be agents of change, they can be empowered to bring the hope and the transformation that we all deserve”, he said.

Mr Ablakwa, therefore, entreated his constituents to vote for the NDC to enable it to achieve its target of garnering 94% of total votes in the North Tongu Constituency for John Mahama to win the election and “reset Ghana”.
