The Eastern Peace Council has observed the need for ambassadors of peace to empower the youth to harness the power of music and arts for the promotion of peaceful elections.

The regional peace ambassador, Nana Owiredu Wadie I, believes equipping the youth with creative skills serves as a powerful platform for peace promotion.

The Chief who is also the development chief of Kwahu-Nkwatia made this call during the International Peace Day celebration at Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

The event, themed "Cultivating a Culture of Peace through Music and Arts in Promoting Peaceful Elections, 2024," focused on the role of music and arts in advancing peace.

The National Peace Council (NPC) is an independent statutory national peace institution established with
a core function of preventing, managing, and resolving conflict and building sustainable peace

The Council is however facing financial and logistical challenges, hindering its ability to carry out its mandate effectively.

The Eastern Regional Chairman of the Peace Council, Professor Mark Boadu, said the council currently faces financial and logistical constraints.

"The council is often held back by few constraints notably financial and logistical. Contrary to the common belief that the Peace Council is rich, I wish to say it has never been so. The council is not a paid institution,” he said, adding that only the executive officers receive monthly salaries.

“The Council is not a paid institution. We are not paid but the Executive officers working there are paid monthly”.

In a speech delivered on his behalf by Nana Opoku Amankwah II, Kyidomhene of Kwahu Nkwatia, Nana Owiredu Wadie (I) emphasised the powerful role music and arts can play in fostering peace in the country before, during, and after the elections.

Nana Owiredu Wadie cognisant of the significance of peace in fostering development, donated GH₵100, 000 to support the peace council carry out its activities.
