The Majority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has made it clear that he will never sit in the seat of the Minority Leader due to what he describes as spiritual reasons.
With just three weeks left to the December general election, Afenyo-Markin asserted that it would be unwise and symbolically improper for him to occupy that seat.
According to Afenyo-Markin, sitting in the Minority Leader’s seat would be tantamount to leading his caucus into a minority position in Parliament.
This, he explained, is something he is unwilling to do, as it would carry negative connotations both politically and spiritually. “I will never sit on that seat,” he declared, underscoring his firm stance.
He further urged the Speaker of Parliament to take action and ensure that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament return to their designated seats.
According to Afenyo-Markin, this would restore order and reflect the proper parliamentary structure, especially in light of the imminent elections.
The Majority Leader’s comments come amid rising tensions and heightened political sensitivity in Parliament as the country approaches its general election.
