The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has accused the Jubilee House of leading a fake news campaign on social media designed to undermine him and his political ambitions.
Speaking at a mini-rally in the Asene Manso Akroso constituency of the Eastern Region on Tuesday, November 19, Mahama claimed that the seat of government had become the centre for spreading false information aimed at discrediting him and others.
His comments followed a statement from the Chief of Akyem Akroso, Nana Kwabena Ofori, who recently denied reports claiming he had endorsed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, during a recent visit.
Mahama urged Ghanaians to be vigilant and verify any information they come across, stressing the importance of resisting misinformation as the 2024 elections draw near.
“While Nana was speaking, he said journalists should be careful and not misconstrue him. Nana, it is not the journalists; it is the Jubilee House. That is where people are misconstrued. It is called fake news when what you have not said is reported as something you have said."
“It is not the right thing, but they have done it to me, they have done it to you, and a lot of people. So, all fake news on social media comes from the Jubilee House,” he stated.
