On Wednesday, King Mohammed VI appointed Zouhair Chorfi as President of the National Electricity Regulatory Authority (ANRE).
This aligns with Article 49 of the Constitution and upon the recommendation of the Head of Government and the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development.
The King issued directives to reform ANRE, transforming it into a comprehensive National Regulatory Authority for the energy sector.
This overhaul will involve revising existing laws to expand ANRE’s responsibilities beyond electricity to include all energy components such as natural gas, hydrogen, and related derivatives.
The authority’s scope will also cover production, storage, transport, and distribution, reflecting the maturity of Morocco’s energy sector and adhering to international best practices.
