President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has extended his congratulations to President-elect John Dramani Mahama.
In a phone call, President Akufo-Addo commended Mahama on his decisive victory and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring a smooth transfer of power on January 7, 2025.
“I remain committed to facilitating a seamless transition process,” President Akufo-Addo said, pledging his administration’s full cooperation with the incoming government.
He expressed his willingness to work closely with President-elect Mahama and his team to ensure the transition reflects the principles of good governance.
This follows the official declaration of the 2024 Presidential Election results by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa.
The President also lauded the Electoral Commission and the people of Ghana for their active participation in a peaceful and credible election, underscoring the enduring strength of Ghana’s democracy.
“This successful election is a testament to the collective commitment of Ghanaians to upholding the democratic process,” he stated.
Calling for unity in the aftermath of the election, President Akufo-Addo urged Ghanaians to come together to consolidate democracy and the rule of law.
“This is a time for collaboration and nation-building. I call on all citizens to work in harmony to further strengthen our democracy,” he added.
As part of efforts to initiate the transition process, President Akufo-Addo has invited President-elect Mahama to a meeting on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Jubilee House.
The meeting will set the tone for a cooperative and structured handover of power, ensuring Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa remains intact.
President Akufo-Addo concluded his statement with a prayerful wish for the nation, saying, “May God continue to bless our homeland Ghana and make her great and strong.”
The President’s message of peace and unity is expected to foster a smooth and collaborative transition, highlighting Ghana’s commitment to democratic values.
President Akufo-Addo confirmed reaching out to the President-elect in a post on X on Monday evening.
