The Office of the President has reiterated its directive prohibiting outgoing Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Regional Ministers, and other political appointees from acquiring official government vehicles as the administration concludes its term in office.

In a statement signed by the Director of Communications, Eugene Arhin, the directive emphasizes that no government vehicles will be made available for acquisition by appointees, marking a continuation of the policy first introduced at the end of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s first term in 2020.

The statement highlighted President Akufo-Addo’s commitment to accountability and responsible management of state resources, stressing that the longstanding convention of allowing appointees to acquire one official saloon vehicle through valuation by the State Transport Company Ltd. will not apply under the current administration.

All government vehicles in the possession of political appointees, including Ministers of State, Deputy Ministers, Regional Ministers, Special Assistants, Special Aides to the President and Vice President, and Chairpersons or Members of Statutory Boards and Corporations, must be returned to the Chief Directors of their respective Ministries by Friday, January 3, 2025.

The directive, which falls under the Presidential Office Act, 1993 (Act 463), reinforces the government’s commitment to transparency and efficient management of public resources.
