Kofi Bentil, the Senior Vice President of IMANI Africa, has called on individuals seeking the removal of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, to desist from such actions.
He made the call in a Facebook post on Friday, 20 December 2024.
According to Mr Bentil, the IGP played an instrumental role in safeguarding Ghana’s peace and stability during the tense period of the 2024 general elections.
He commended Dr Dampare for his exemplary leadership, which he described as a “yeoman’s job” in ensuring order and security during a potentially volatile time.
Mr Bentil further argued that attempts to remove the IGP from office would be counterproductive, given his significant contributions to maintaining national peace.
He urged detractors to focus on supporting the police service rather than undermining its leadership.
"I am breaking my FB leave again to tell all those crazy people attempting to upset the safety and security of Ghana that this nation belongs to us all and you cannot force yourself on anyone without severe consequences!!! LEAVE DR. DAMPARE ALONE!!"
"He has done his job for God and Country. And Ghana is better for it. His honest work has led to a tense election settling very quickly. Things would have been far worse if he had not stamped his feet. And he did all of this without Police firing any shot!"
Mr Bentil also spoke about a suit pending before the Supreme Court which is seeking to stop politicization of appointments of security heads.
