The Interim Management Committee (IMC) of Asante Kotoko has declared that the club will not resume participation in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) until their requests regarding new security measures are met by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
In a joint proposal sent to the GFA on Monday, February 10, by Kotoko and rival club Hearts of Oak, the clubs outlined measures to curb hooliganism and demanded enhanced security at league venues following the stabbing of famous Kotoko fan, “Nana Pooley,” to death.
In a meeting with the GFA, Nana Apinkrah, expressed his displeasure at the FA’s approach to their demands.
“We know we [Hearts and Kotoko] don’t matter to the GFA,” he said.
“But now, whether you like it or not, you will respect us. We will show you we are Kotoko and Hearts.”
“We are not returning to football until all our requests regarding the new security measures are granted,” he added.
The statement comes amid ongoing discussions on improving security at league venues, a key demand from both Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.
The GFA has yet to respond to the club’s ultimatum.
