Mr Divine Bosson, the immediate past Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ho in the Volta region, has condemned alleged attempts by security forces to raid his residence.
The MCE, who had his official residence besieged by individuals believed to be affiliated with the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) shortly after the 2024 general elections, has reported a similar incident.
According to him, armed police officers visited one of his properties, which is under construction in the municipality, this morning, Thursday, March 20.
“I received intelligence yesterday [Wednesday] that they had met and planned to raid my property. They attempted to obtain a warrant from the court, but they were unsuccessful. I was at home this morning when my neighbour called to inform me that armed men had come to the house to question its ownership,” he said.
Mr Bosson explained that his inquiries revealed that the Volta Regional Minister had ordered the raid. He expressed concern that it could be an attempt to set him up or implicate him in some way.
“I called the Regional Crime Officer, who denied any knowledge of the operation. I then contacted the Municipal Commander, and to my surprise, he stated that the Regional Minister had instructed them to investigate the alleged hoarding of items. When asked what specific items were allegedly being hoarded, they couldn’t provide an answer.
“I suspect they did not go there with the intention of finding anything but to potentially plant suspicious items, and then return at a later time to claim that I placed them there,” he claimed.
Mr Bosson assured that he is willing to comply with any investigation into his tenure as MCE but warned the NDC against unwarranted intimidation of public officials. He recounted the trauma his children suffered during the previous incident.
“I have decided to recall my children from school out of fear of another such incident,” he said.
“The NDC should stop using the police to target hardworking Ghanaians and others who have served their people with integrity. This is not the first time. My children are afraid to go to school because of what they experienced last time when thugs, allegedly linked to the NDC, invaded our home with cutlasses.
“It’s the same tactics they are trying to use again. Tell me, who has reported any stolen items? When did owning property in Ghana become a crime? Not all the property I own was acquired after becoming MCE. They are only doing this to deflect from their looming failure and blame us for it.
“Frankly, I am a law-abiding citizen. I have not travelled. After losing power, I am still here. I am part of the community and stand with the people. So, if they want to ask me anything, they shouldn’t hesitate to contact me. I am available to answer any questions about my actions or my time in office.
“Because this has happened before, I was on my way to pick up my children from school. They were attacked before, and I don’t want them to go through the same experience again,” he concluded.
