The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has called on the newly elected leadership of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) to prioritise talent development and the inclusion of women in sports administration.

In a congratulatory message dated 28th April 2025, he extended warm felicitations to Mr Richard Akpokavie on his election as President of the GOC, as well as to all newly elected executives.

The Minister described the election results as a clear testament to the confidence reposed in their leadership and vision by the Ghanaian sports fraternity.

"The Ministry looks forward to working collaboratively with the GOC to advance the national sports agenda," the Minister stated.

He emphasised the government’s commitment to deepening engagement with national federations, strengthening governance structures, and supporting sustainable funding mechanisms for both elite and grassroots sports development.

A critical area highlighted is completion of the OlympAfrica Juvenile Sports Excellence Centre at Amasaman.

According to him, the project is a "pivotal hub for talent development and Olympic excellence" and urged the new GOC leadership to treat its completion as a matter of national interest.

The Minister also encouraged the GOC to actively leverage resources from the Olympic Solidarity Fund and other streams within the Olympic Movement.

The MP for Buem Constituency stressed the need to secure consistent support for athlete training programmes, technical officials’ development, and sports infrastructure projects.

"Through strategic resource mobilisation, we can position Ghana to compete confidently on the continental and global stage," he added.

Expressing concern over the limited representation of women in the newly constituted GOC administration, Adams urged the leadership to place greater focus on inclusivity.

"The presence and active participation of women are vital indicators of progress toward a truly inclusive and representative sports governance structure," he noted.

The Minister also expressed trust that Mr Akpokavie’s leadership would strengthen efforts to ensure women’s inclusion at all levels of administration.

He reaffirmed the Ministry’s readiness to support the GOC and all federations in building a resilient, unified, and high-performing sports ecosystem.

He expressed confidence that through collaboration, innovation, and a shared vision, Ghanaian sports could enter a new era of excellence and national pride.
