Tanzania’s female golfer, Madina Iddi, has successfully defended her title at the Ghana Ladies Amateur Open Stroke Play Championship, which ended on Saturday at the Center of the World Golf Club in Tema.
The 54-hole tournament, one of Africa’s most prestigious women's golf events, teed off on Thursday and attracted elite female golfers from across the continent.
Madina, who won the tournament in 2023 but missed the 2024 edition, returned in dominant fashion. She carded an opening-round score of 74 gross, establishing an early eight-stroke lead over Nigeria’s Ehinomhen Igbinadolor, who posted 82 gross.
Despite a more challenging second round, where she returned with an 80 gross, Madina maintained her edge and held on to the top spot through the final round.
Zambia’s Lorna Mwenda was third after Day 1 with 83 gross, while Ghana’s Diana Osmond and Evelyn Oyome completed the top five on the leaderboard.
Madina was accompanied by Yasmin Chali, Honorary Secretary of the Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU), who recorded 104 gross in her opening round on the challenging Tema course.
Her victory in Ghana follows another impressive performance in Ndola, Zambia, where she defended her title at the Zambian Ladies Golf Union Open Championship with rounds of 77, 75, and 76 for a 54-hole total of 228 gross.
By retaining the Ghana Ladies Amateur Open trophy, Madina Iddi continues to solidify her position as one of the top female golfers on the continent and earns valuable World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points to further enhance her global standing.
