Former Ghana Athletics coach Elorm Amenakpor says the country’s quartet deserve the same treatment and investment given to the Black Stars.
The relay team made history in Tokyo with a new national record of 37.79 seconds in their heat, and finished fourth at the final of the World Athletics Championships.
Amenakpor is calling on government and stakeholders to act now before the team’s momentum fades.
He believes it is the only way Ghana can turn near misses into medals on the global stage.
"I have been saying that we really need to handle this team like the way we handle the Black Stars," he told JoySports.
"The relay is so open [to win a medal], best teams could drop batons.
"The team that beat us to the third position [The Netherlands] are always in camp every three months. There is something we call periodization in training programme planning and they [The Netherlands] are camped four times before a major championship.”
The quartet of Ibrahim Fuseini, Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Paul Amoah, and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu clocked 37.93s in the final, missing the podium by just 0.04s.
