The Dansoman Circuit Court has remanded a trader into police custody for allegedly attempting to engage in human trafficking.
Victoria Ogbonna, a 33-year-old Nigerian national residing in Bogoso, pleaded not guilty to the charge of “attempt to commit crime to wit human trafficking.”
She is expected to reappear on October 30, 2025.
The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Emelia Mensah, told the court that on October 6, 2025, at about 1200 hours, Ogbonna was spotted at Kwame Nkrumah Circle with the victim, whose name was withheld.
The court heard that Ogbonna allegedly transported the victim from Nigeria to Ghana with the intention of compelling her to engage in prostitution.
Upon arrival, she reportedly took the victim to the Driver’s Lodge Hotel at Kwame Nkrumah Circle and locked her in a room without explanation.
An informant, who is a witness in the case, received information about the incident and proceeded to the hotel, where the victim was rescued with assistance from others.
The prosecution said the victim was taken to the police station for further investigation.
During her caution statement, Ogbonna admitted to bringing the victim to Ghana but denied any involvement in human trafficking.
