Convenor of the One Ghana Movement, Senyo Hosi, says that former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia privately expressed embarrassment over the controversial contract between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML).
According to Mr Hosi, Dr Bawumia disassociated himself from the SML-GRA arrangement.
Speaking on Channel One TV on Saturday, November 1, Mr Hosi described the deal as the handiwork of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and a group of associates.
“If Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will be honest, he told me straight in my face that he was embarrassed by this arrangement [SML-GRA arrangement] and we discussed it. Bawumia did not sign up to this; this is a pure Ken Ofori-Atta, Akore and Adusei — interestingly, his [Adusei’s] name never comes,” Mr Hosi disclosed.
His comments follow the OSP's announcement that it plans to charge Mr. Ofori-Atta and several other former government officials by the end of November 2025, after conducting a comprehensive investigation into alleged corruption and related offenses.
At a press briefing on Thursday, October 30, the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, said the probe uncovered serious financial irregularities involving top officials of the Ministry of Finance, the GRA and individuals linked to SML.
Those expected to face charges alongside Mr. Ofori-Atta include:
- Ernest Akore, former Chef de Cabinet to the Finance Minister
- Emmanuel Kofi Nti, former Commissioner-General, GRA
- Rev. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, former Commissioner-General, GRA
- Isaac Crentsil, former Customs Commissioner and General Manager, SML
- Kwadwo Damoah, former Customs Commissioner and MP for Jaman South
