The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has advised its officers stationed in the Bawku area to exercise heightened vigilance and prioritise their safety in light of recent assaults on security operatives in the region.
Bawku has recently experienced intermittent outbreaks of violence, including attacks targeting security officers, prompting renewed concern over the safety of personnel deployed to the volatile enclave.
Deputy Comptroller General of Immigration, Lord Ofori Afrifa, on Wednesday, 5 November 2025, noted that the unstable security climate in Bawku continues to endanger officers performing their duties along Ghana’s borders.
Addressing security personnel in the area following a fatal assault on Immigration officers in Tempane, Mr Ofori Afrifa stressed the importance of increased alertness and personal safety among all deployed staff.
“As we have been talking to them, we have been warning them as well to take security seriously, especially around our borders. We should be aware of the operational areas we find ourselves, the risks and the dangers that we face in discharging the duties of our work,” he said.
