The National Election Security Taskforce has met with the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Election Committee ahead of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026, as part of early security preparations for the exercise.
The meeting was held to formally receive notification of the planned elections and to obtain critical details, including the timetable, proposed venues, and the scope of activities surrounding the primaries.
These details, the taskforce noted, are necessary to allow for comprehensive security planning and coordination ahead of the polls.

Speaking at the engagement on Thursday, December 18, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, underscored the importance of early consultations between political parties and security agencies, particularly in the lead-up to internal party elections.
According to him, such engagements enable the taskforce to anticipate potential security challenges and put in place appropriate measures to ensure a smooth electoral process.

He assured the NPP Presidential Election Committee that the Ghana Police Service, working alongside other security agencies, would collaborate closely with the Electoral Commission and the party to guarantee a peaceful, orderly, and credible election.
The IGP further reaffirmed the commitment of the National Election Security Taskforce to work with all relevant stakeholders to maintain law and order, protect public safety, and ensure calm before, during, and after the NPP’s presidential primaries.
