Professor Henry Kwasi Prempeh, Chairman of the Constitutional Review Committee, has announced that the Committee is recommending an amendment to Article 62(b) of the Constitution to reduce the minimum age for presidential candidates.
Under the proposed change, the eligibility age to contest the presidency would be lowered from forty to thirty years.

"The Committee recommends an amendment to Article 62(b) to lower the minimum age a person must attain to qualify for election as President from forty (40) years to thirty (30) years," he said on Monday at the Jubilee House when he presented the Committee's work to the president.
Professor Prempeh explained that the recommendation is part of the Committee’s broader review of the Constitution aimed at enhancing inclusivity and encouraging youth participation in national leadership.
Also, the Committee has proposed an extension of the presidential term of office from four years to five years, as part of recommendations aimed at strengthening governance and policy continuity.
