Fire personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on Wednesday responded swiftly to a distress call reporting a multi-vehicle crash near the Kintampo Waterfalls.
The Service said it received the emergency alert at about 3:59 p.m., after which a rescue team was immediately dispatched to the scene, arriving approximately an hour and a half later.
In all, 26 passengers were trapped and rescued by firefighters, who also worked to secure the area and prevent the fire from spreading further.
Three people sustained injuries and were promptly transported to the Kintampo Municipal Hospital for medical treatment.
Officials at the scene found that several vehicles were involved in a chain collision. Among them was a Mercedes Sprinter bus, which crashed into parked vehicles and caught fire in the process.
Preliminary information indicates that the accident occurred during efforts to tow a Kia Bongo truck that had slipped into a pit days earlier. The towing operation reportedly triggered the sequence of collisions.
The Ghana National Fire Service has once again urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly during towing operations, to help prevent avoidable accidents.
