AS Monaco have confirmed that defender Mohammed Salisu has suffered a serious knee injury after undergoing medical tests following the club’s recent Ligue 1 clash with Olympique Lyonnais.
In a statement released on their official channels, the club revealed that the Ghana international tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee during the closing moments of the match.
Salisu was forced off late in the encounter, raising immediate concerns about the extent of the injury. Subsequent medical examinations have now confirmed the worst, with the 25-year-old set to begin a lengthy period of rehabilitation.
AS Monaco expressed full backing for the centre-back as he embarks on his recovery journey, assuring him of the club’s unwavering support throughout the process.
“The Club will support Mohammed throughout his recovery and is behind him all the way,” the statement read. “Stay strong, Sarki, we’re with you.”
The injury is a major blow for both AS Monaco and Ghana, with Salisu an integral figure in Monaco’s defensive setup and a regular feature for Ghana's Black Stars.
An ACL injury typically rules players out for several months, putting his immediate club and international commitments in doubt.
AS Monaco are said to release further updates on Salisu’s rehabilitation timeline in due course.
