Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has described the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) peace pact as a solemn commitment rather than a ceremonial exercise, as the party steps up preparations for its presidential primaries scheduled for January 31.
Addressing party faithful and presidential aspirants at the signing ceremony held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra on Thursday, January 22, Mr Akufo-Addo stressed that the pact represents a binding moral obligation to safeguard unity and peace within the party.
“This is not a routine ceremony. It is a solemn covenant that binds every aspirant to conduct themselves with dignity and restraint before, during and after the primaries,” the former president stated.
He urged all contestants to demonstrate respect for the party’s democratic processes by accepting the outcome of the January 31 polls in good faith, regardless of the results.
Mr Akufo-Addo further reminded the aspirants that the collective strength of the NPP outweighs individual ambition, calling on them to rally behind the eventual winner in the interest of party cohesion.
“The New Patriotic Party is bigger than any one person, and our shared commitment to unity must always come first,” he emphasised.
