A total of 7,997 delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bono Region are set for the party’s presidential primary on Saturday, January 31, to elect a flagbearer for the Election 2028.
Mr Henry Osei Karikari, the Bono Regional Director of Elections and Research of the NPP, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Sunyani that the delegates were spread across the 12 politically administrative constituencies in the region.
He said the election materials were expected to arrive in Sunyani from the party’s headquarters in Accra on Monday, January 26, and that, upon arrival, they would be kept at the Police armoury for safekeeping.
In a breakdown, Mr Karikari said 943 delegates were expected to cast their ballots in Sunyani East, 837 in Tain, 760 in Dormaa Central, 755 in Wenchi, 751 in Jaman South, and 734 in Berekum East.
The Jaman North has 628 delegates, Dormaa East has 498 delegates, Berekum West has 366 delegates, Dormaa West has 333 delegates, and the Banda constituency has 286 delegates.
Mr Karikari assured a more credible and transparent election and urged the delegates to come out in their numbers to vote for their preferred candidate.
The delegates will decide on the Former Vice President Alhaji Dr Bawumia, Mr Kennedy Agyapong, former Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Dr Bryan Acheampong, MP for Abetifi and former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, MP for Bosomtwe and former Minister of Education, and Mr Kwabena Agyepong, former General Secretary of the NPP.
