The body of an unidentified young man, believed to be in his early twenties, has been found in a drainage channel at Aboabo in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The grim discovery was made on Friday, January 30, prompting concern among residents of the area. Initial observations suggest the victim may have been subjected to mob justice before his body was abandoned in the drain.
The Unit Committee Member for the Aboabo Extension electoral area, Sumaila Dauda, told Citi News that the condition of the body pointed to a possible lynching.
He described the incident as disturbing and noted that similar cases have occurred in the community in the past.
According to him, he was alerted by a resident and immediately went to the scene, where he observed signs indicating the young man had been severely beaten.
He added that the police were promptly informed and subsequently conveyed the body to the morgue.
Police have confirmed the incident and say investigations are underway to establish the identity of the deceased and the circumstances leading to his death, as authorities intensify efforts to curb such acts in the area.
