Founder of the United Front Party, Akwasi Addai Odike, claims the government has not made any payments to road contractors.
He said the government owes contractors over ¢90 billion for work done.
In an interview on Nhyira FM’s Kuro Yi Mu Nsem with host Barima Kofi Dawson, Odike stated that despite government announcements of payments, contractors are yet to receive any money.
The government in December 2025 announced a GH¢1 billion payment to contractors owed since 2017.
But Odike, who is a road contractor, says they are still waiting to receive payments.
“Contractors’ money, over ¢90 billion, is locked. Government has made several payment announcements, but we haven’t received a pesewa,” he said.
Akwasi Addai Odike shared that he is still waiting for payment for the completed Berekum-Nkyekyemamu-Abrankasu road project.
“I have completed the Berekum-Nkyekyemamu-Abrankasu road, and vehicles are using it, yet I have not been paid. This delay is affecting contractors’ cash flow, making it tough for us to operate.”
He explained that the previous government had released his payment for work done, but due to the change in government, an embargo was placed on it pending a comprehensive audit.
Despite the audit being completed, he’s still awaiting payment.
He refuted the government’s claim that ¢10 billion has been paid to road contractors through the Finance Ministry in the past year alone.
