The Minister for Health and Member of Parliament for Juaboso, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has expressed condolences to the families of persons who lost their lives in a shooting incident at Sefwi Sayerano in the Western North Region.
Mr Akandoh described the incident as deeply unfortunate and called for justice to prevail, urging that the matter be handled in accordance with the law.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, July 8, the Juaboso MP commiserated with the bereaved families and said he hoped the appropriate legal processes would be followed.
“I would want to use the opportunity to commiserate with the families of the people who lost their lives in a shooting incident in Sefwi Sayerano in the Juaboso Constituency,” he said.
"Mr. Speaker, that was unfortunate, and I only hope and pray that the law will take its own course.”
Mr Akandoh, however, criticised comments made by some members on the minority side of the House concerning the incident, accusing them of politicising the matter and acting in bad faith.
The shooting incident occurred on Monday, July 7, when officers from the Sefwi Wiawso Divisional Police Command reportedly went to Sefwi Sayerano to arrest a suspected drug peddler.
According to initial reports, a confrontation ensued between the police and some residents who allegedly resisted arrest, resulting in two deaths and gunshot injuries to two other persons.
An update from the community on Wednesday, July 8, confirmed that one of the injured victims had succumbed to the injuries, bringing the number of fatalities to three.
The remaining injured victims are currently receiving medical attention at a health facility, while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the mortuary.
