The New Patriotic Party in the Ashanti region has cleared 34 aspirants to contest in the upcoming regional executive elections.
One candidate named Adwoa Adutwumwaa Boadi, who filed to contest the Deputy Secretary position, withdrew from the contest.
Addressing the media in Kumasi, Chairman of the Regional Election Committee, Rita Talata Asobayire, said 35 aspirants filed, but one aspiring for Assistant Secretary stepped down during vetting.
She said the vetting was peaceful and all qualified candidates have pledged to run a clean campaign aimed at uniting the party to win power.
Madam Asobayire urged aspirants to avoid insults and attacks, and called on delegates to vote based on competence and loyalty.
She assured that measures have been put in place to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections in the coming weeks.
Madama Asobayire also confirmed that the Regional Executive internal elections will be held on August 16th at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The aspirants pledged to run a clean campaign devoid of acrimony. They further committed to uniting after the elections to work collectively to return the party to power.
