The Municipal Chief Executive for La Nkwantanang-Madina, Ibrahim Fusseini Faila, has ordered an investigation into allegations that some traders and businesses are using chemicals to artificially ripen fruits and other agricultural produce in the municipality.

The directive follows concerns raised by traders during a stakeholder engagement involving the Assembly and traders from the Madina and Bohye markets.

According to the Assembly, the traders expressed concern about the alleged use of chemicals to speed up the ripening of fruits and other farm produce sold to the public.

Alhaji Faila has consequently directed the immediate formation of a committee to investigate the claims, identify any individuals or businesses involved and determine the extent of the practice.

He said anyone found culpable after the investigation should be dealt with in accordance with the law.

The move forms part of efforts by the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly to protect consumers and ensure that food products sold within the municipality meet required safety standards.

The Assembly is expected to work with relevant regulatory agencies and other stakeholders as investigations into the allegations begin.
