Emmanuel Mamah's second-half goal gave FC Samartex the advantage over Victoria United after the first leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary round.
The forward netted two minutes into the second half to secure victory for Samartex against the Cameroonian side at the Japoma Sports Stadium in Douala.
It is a win on their first attempt in the inter-club competition as they hope to make their mark on their debut.
The reverse fixture is scheduled to be played in Ghana at the Accra Sports Stadium next weekend.
The winner of the tie will face Niger’s AS GNN or Raja Casablanca of Morocco in the second round.
Raja are also a step away from the second preliminary round after securing a 2-1 away win over AS GNN.
