The Centre for Democratic Movement (CDM) has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of political and moral inconsistency over the controversial inclusion of gender identity concepts in Senior High School curricula.
The organisation noted that while the NDC previously condemned LGBTQ-related content as a moral threat, the party now oversees its quiet implementation.
CDM highlighted that the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, once championed by the NDC, has stalled in Parliament, even as the contentious curriculum content emerges under its administration.
“In opposition, the NDC framed LGBTQ issues as a moral emergency. Today, with full control of government, Parliament, and legislative agenda, the urgency has vanished,” the group said.
The organisation also pointed to the apparent contradiction in government communications regarding the manual. The foreword bears the signature of Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, yet officials now claim the controversial content was introduced in 2024. CDM called this a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and evade responsibility.
CDM has demanded a clear public stance from the NDC, insisting that the party should reconcile its past moral pronouncements with its current policy actions.
“Ghanaians are entitled to ask: was yesterday’s outrage political convenience and today’s silence deliberate policy?” the organisation questioned.
Concluding, CDM stressed that the NDC’s silence undermines public trust and sets a dangerous precedent for ideological imposition in Ghanaian classrooms.
The organisation urged the government to prioritise national values and to consult widely with citizens, parents, and educators before introducing sensitive content in schools.
