Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Council of Elders, Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, has criticised the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, describing it as desperate to retain power despite its dwindling support.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, 3 December, he accused the government of clinging to power through questionable tactics, suggesting that its days in office were numbered.
In his remarks, Alhaji Iddrisu outlined the NPP government’s alleged failures over its nearly eight years in office.
He claimed that Ghanaians had been fleeced and impoverished by poor governance, citing economic mismanagement and widespread corruption as key issues.
“This government has stolen from the pensions of the aged, destroyed businesses, and kept our roads in deplorable condition,” he said.
He further criticised the government for the inadequate remuneration of workers, attributing it to claims that the country is financially constrained.
“For almost eight years, workers have been poorly paid under the excuse that the nation is broke,” he remarked.
Alhaji Iddrisu argued that the government’s track record had eroded public confidence, making its bid to retain power even more questionable.
The NDC Council of Elders called on Ghanaians to hold the government accountable for its failures and to demand better governance.
Alhaji Iddrisu urged citizens to remain vigilant ahead of the upcoming elections, emphasising the importance of free, fair, and transparent processes to safeguard the country’s democratic future.
