The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), has expressed sorrow following the tragic helicopter crash at Sikaman in the Adansi Akrofuom area of the Ashanti Region.
The incident claimed the lives of several senior government officials, including the Minister of Defence, Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.

In an official statement, the leadership and staff of all ECOWAS institutions conveyed their deepest condolences to the bereaved families, the Government of Ghana, and the people of the Republic of Ghana.
The statement highlighted that ECOWAS’s thoughts and prayers remain with the nation during this difficult moment of national grief.
The loss of these prominent figures is deeply felt across the West African region, where both ministers were recognised for their vital contributions to governance, security, and sustainable development.
ECOWAS reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Ghana through this period of mourning and rebuilding, underscoring the unity and solidarity that binds member states in times of crisis.
The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, announced the tragic news on Wednesday, August 6, at a press conference and directed that all national flags be flown at half-mast in honour of the deceased.
He also extended the government’s condolences to the bereaved families and the nation.
The other deceased persons include Muniru Mohammed, acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Aboagye, a former NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East; and Samuel Sarpong, a Vice Chairman of the NDC and a former Kumasi Mayor.
