A former Minister of Finance has asked the government to immediately form a national economic rescue team to help resolve the current crisis.
Dr Kwabena Duffuor said that will provide expert ideas to the government on the issue.
In his view, this is not a problem that cannot be solved
“This is so because it has been established that no problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created the problems, hence there is a need for the establishment of an economic national rescue team to resolve the present crisis,” he said in an interview with Daily Graphic on Monday.
Dr Duffuor added he will wholeheartedly join such a team and offer his expertise for free.
According to him, the experience he has garnered from his previous portfolios can be tapped into at anytime.
“I am ready to offer that voluntary service to the nation at this point in time when called upon.
I will offer the experience that I gained from managing the economy, from the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank and my think-thank, the Institute of Fiscal Studies, and in macroeconomics free of charge to help bring relief to the people,” he added.
Ghana in July turned to the IMF for a $3 billion three-year period bailout as the economy faces its worst crisis in the last twenty years.
The cocoa, gold, and oil-producing West African nation has said it needs the deal by the end of the year.
The government has begun restructuring its debt by rolling out a plan to swap $10.5 billion in local bonds with new ones, a move which has been met with stiff resistance by the organised and the public.
