A medical practitioner and member of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Kobina Arthur Kennedy, has expressed concern about the Finance Minister's continued stay in office.
According to him, the uncertainty about whether Ken Ofori-Atta will stay at post or be replaced weakens the effectiveness of government's engagements with its stakeholders.
Speaking on NewsFile on Saturday, he explained that, government's engagements with its stakeholders are likely to be ineffective, since they do not know for a fact, whether Mr Ofori-Atta will be available to oversee those agreements.
This he said does not augur well for government's interactions with agitated labour unions as well as ongoing talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
"You know the person you're shaking hands with is going to be gone 'right after the budget'. It undermines the process of negotiation and our confidence in the things we agree to", he stated.
Dr. Arthur Kennedy therefore called for closure on the fate of the Finance Minister to deepen the confidence of stakeholders in their interactions with government.
The comments by the NPP sympathizer comes at a time when opinions are still divided over whether the Finance Minister should be sent packing or be allowed to stay at post.
A recent manifestation of this controversy was when Majority MPs in Parliament refused to back a move by their colleagues from the Minority to pass a censure motion against the Finance Minister.
Earlier, the Majority had called for the sacking of the Finance Minister due to his role in the country's current economic crisis.
However, when it was time to pass a vote of censure to bar the Finance Minister from being at post, the Majority MPs refused to participate in the process.
According to them, the move by their counterparts from the Minority is for political expediency, hence their refusal.
This departure from their stance has been described by the Minority as a treachery.
Meanwhile, the Majority MPs say even though they have qualms about the way the Finance Minister has handled affairs, they will consider other avenues to get him out, other than a censure motion.
