A Kumasi High Court has granted bail to a former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Asokore-Mampong, Alhaji Alidu Seidu, along with eight other individuals implicated in the illicit sale of government land.
The accused are alleged to have conspired to unlawfully sell a 10.54-acre tract of government land designated for the establishment of a community hospital in Buoban, a suburb of Kumasi.
The complainant in the case is Mr Ben Abdullah Alhassan, the current Municipal Chief Executive of Asokore-Mampong.
The individuals also standing trial alongside the former MCE are Abigail Agyemang Boateng, the former Physical Planning Officer, Henry Acquah, former Principal Technical Officer, and Solomon Kwakye, a former Senior Technical Officer at the Assembly.
Other accomplices who have also been granted bail by the court for their alleged involvement in the fraudulent land transaction are Ibrahim Osman, Abubakar Wazir Ayuba, Mohammed Salisu, Mallam Ismail Umar, and Abdul Wahab Mohammed.
The prosecution said the defendants falsified official land documents to facilitate their nefarious dealings.
Each accused was granted bail in the sum of GH¢800,000, requiring three sureties, two of whom must be substantiated with legitimate landed property.
The nine defendants faced a total of 12 charges, including conspiracy to falsify land records, falsification of land records, fraudulent breach of trust, abetment of crime in the alleged unlawful sale of public land, conspiracy to commit a crime, unlawful occupation of public land, and possession of forged documents.
Meanwhile, two additional suspects, Brima Fredua Agyemang II, Kenyasehene, and Kofi Nti Buoban Odikro, who are also implicated in the matter but failed to appear before the court, have been issued bench warrants for their apprehension.
At the time of this report, all nine defendants had been unable to satisfy the bail conditions and remained in police custody until such conditions were fulfilled.
The case was adjourned to March 12, 2026.
