The Member of Parliament for Bantama and former Roads and Highways Minister, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has criticised President John Dramani Mahama following the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
He described the decision as reckless and damaging to Ghana’s democratic progress.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, September 2, Mr Asenso-Boakye alleged that the removal was not accidental but a deliberate plan executed by the government.
“President Mahama’s sacking of the Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo is no accident, it was a long-planned scheme, executed with precision. This reckless move shatters judicial independence and strikes at the heart of our democracy,” he wrote.
He further argued that the action poses a dangerous threat to the judiciary, warning that if a Chief Justice could be removed on “flimsy grounds,” no judge would feel secure enough to uphold the Constitution.
“This is not just an attack on one individual, it is an assault on the very foundation of our Republic,” Mr Asenso-Boakye stressed.
Concluding his remarks, the Bantama legislator urged Ghanaians to rise against attempts to weaken the country’s institutions.
“Ghana has come too far to let the Rule of Law be hijacked. We must resist every attempt to weaken our institutions. Ghana deserves better,” he said.
