The administrator of the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) has criticised government for its failure in collecting royalties that are due musicians in the country.
Speaking to Jay Foley on Prime Morning, Captain Agya Abraham said government is a huge contributor to the failure of the collection of royalties.
He blamed government for not giving them enough funds to operate, adding that government, which also consumes a lot of music has never paid royalties to the respective artists.
“My question is; how do they value our music? Is it only for elections? It is time that the state takes much more interest in facilitating some of the issues. The state uses music but when you go to collect royalties, they rubbish it.”
Jay Foley and Captain Abraham were joined via video call by musicians, Trigmatic and Reggie Zippy.
The two artists expressed disappointment at GHAMRO for what they describe as unfair treatment of artists.
