Government has committed to issuing its definitive position on the Bawku Peace Mediation Report within the next 24 hours.
President John Mahama announced today at the official presentation ceremony by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The President made the pledge in his address following the symbolic handover of the report by the King, who led the mediation process.
"I'm pleased that this mediation has come to an end, and that he has presented a report," President Mahama stated.
"I can assure him that government will look at this report, and within the next 24 hours, government will issue a statement on its definitive position on the report."
While committing to a swift governmental response, President Mahama simultaneously called for the mediation efforts to transition into a new, sustained phase of direct reconciliation.
He emphasized that the formal report should be a springboard for continued dialogue, not an endpoint.
"But it's my hope," the President continued, "that the National Peace Council, the House of Chiefs, Otumfuo himself, and all the religious bodies would go the next step of continuing the engagement between the Nayiri and the Bawku Naaba to ensure that we are able to bring reconciliation between the two groups."
