Following a JoyNews report highlighting prolonged water shortages in Kokomlemle, the Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has moved in to undertake repair works, with a technical team from Kanda in the Accra North District deployed to the area.
The intervention comes amid complaints by residents who claimed they had gone weeks without water supply.
Speaking to JoyNews, Communications Manager for GWL’s Western/Central District, Nana Yaw Barnie, attributed the situation largely to a structured water rationing system in Accra, driven by supply constraints.
According to him, water demand in the capital significantly exceeds supply, making rationing necessary.
“For Kokomlemle, residents are scheduled to receive water on Thursdays and Sundays. If you turn on your tap outside those days, you are unlikely to get water because it is not your turn,” he explained.
Mr. Barnie maintained that contrary to claims of a prolonged outage across the entire community, many residents were receiving water as scheduled.
“It is not the case that for two or three weeks the whole of Kokomlemle has not been supplied with water,” he said, expressing doubt over claims of widespread deprivation.
He acknowledged, however, that some households may experience disruptions due to localised challenges such as blocked meters or faults in service lines.
He added that such issues are typically resolved swiftly once reported to GWL, with technical teams dispatched to assess and fix the problem.
He urged residents experiencing persistent supply issues to promptly report to GWL offices to enable quick intervention.
