Prince George Koffie has revealed what accounted for his surprise resignation as head coach of Ghana Premier League side Great Olympics last month.

Koffie was handed the job few days to the start of the season following the resignation of Isaac Nii Armah who had supervised the club's pre-season preparations.

However, Koffie resigned after matchday 7 with the club struggling as they were 14th with just seven points.

In an interview with Joy Sports, the 49-year-old said his wife played a key role in his decision to step down.

According to Koffie, his wife witnessed him being assaulted by fans and asked him to choose between her and coaching.

He narrated: "[After the 1-0 defeat to WAFA in Accra] one of the supporters followed me to where I was going to pick my bag and assaulted me, actually hit me and pushed me in addition and that happened in the presence of my wife."

"My wife normally comes to the stadium to watch my matches so that day she was there. She was also coming to me when she saw that I was coming from the room where I did the post-match interview so she was walking towards me.

It happened in her presence so she wasn't happy at all. She told me to choose between her and Accra Great Olympics and it was serious. So I had no option than to call it to quit."

Since his departure, Great Olympics have had two coaches. Seth Hoffman was sacked after just four games. The team is currently being managed by Annor Walker.

Olympics lie 15th in the league with 14 points. Their next assignment is against city-rivals Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday.
