Spokesperson for Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team, Kwasi Kwarteng, has said the flagbearer hopeful and his team are not moved by the recent declaration of support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia by some 118 former parliamentary candidates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The parliamentary candidates from the 2024 general elections have publicly declared their support for Dr Bawumia ahead of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.
The endorsement, announced at a press conference on Thursday, January 8, 2026, further consolidates internal backing for Dr Bawumia, who is the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate and is seeking re-election to lead the party into the 2024 general election.

However, speaking on JoyNews' The Pulse on Thursday, Mr Kwarteng says, "How can this be a blow to our camp? The said endorsement just demonstrates how failing and weak Dr Bawumia's campaign has become."
"Because how can a campaign which just roughly two years ago enjoyed the full support of almost 137 MPs, 6,000 government appointees, almost 276 MMDCEs now now be showing how their might is by proving to us that they have these 118 parliamentary candidates. If they indeed have a stronger campaign, I am not sure that is the cosmetic show that would endeavour to show us," he added.
Flagbearer hopeful of the NPP, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has concluded his campaign tour of the party’s stronghold, the Ashanti Region. His campaign is anchored on job creation, and the industrialisation of the country should he become President.
