The New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP-elect for the Kumawu Constituency, Ernest Yaw Anim has expressed his delight and gratitude to the people for voting him into power to represent the constituency.

Mr Anim said that the victory was for the whole Kumawu constituency and not just for him and the NPP.

He explained that it was the unity in the NPP that translated into the results that won him the by-election.

“If we look at the votes that I [Ernest Yaw Anim] garnered for the party, it is significant ….. everybody has witnessed the unity.”

Addressing the media after the Electoral Commission (EC) declared him as the winner of the Kumawu by-election on Tuesday, Mr Anim said the victory was because the people believed in his ability to bring development and growth to the constituency.

“This is a landslide, over 71 per cent votes prove that the country has accepted me and believes I can unite and fight for the development of Kumawu,” he said.

The Kumawu MP-elect stated that his victory is a testament that the NPP will break the eight in next year’s general elections.

According to him, the NPP had always delivered on its promises, the reason Ghanaians believe in the party to restore hope to the country.

“NPP brought School feeding programme, Free Senior High School and Ghanaians have benefitted from that. These are the good measures the NPP has put in place to help Ghanaians and the Kumawu Constituency.

“We said we will construct the Kumawu road, they have all seen it, we said we will help build the Kumawu Hospital, the Hospital will be inaugurated this August for the benefit of Kumawu constituents.

“My victory is a sign that proves that the party’s slogan of breaking the eight is possible. It is a statement that shows that NPP will break the eight in 2024 elections,” Mr Anim stated.

The comments come after Mr Anim polled 15,264 votes representing 70.91% to win the Kumawu Constituency by-election and thus retaining the seat for the party.

The by-election was expected to be closely fought following the high stakes invested in the seat by both the ruling NPP and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), whose candidate Kwasi Amankwaa, came a distant second with 3,727 votes or 17.29 percent.

The two other contestants in the by-election, both named Kwaku Duah, equally did not provide much of a contest, sharing between them a paltry 2,540 votes or 11.8%.

To this end, Mr Anim noted that the Kumawu constituents will always be grateful for the work the NPP party has done in the constituency.

"Ghanaians and the Kumawu constituents will honour President Akufo-Addo, the Vice President and the NPP at large for them to witness that we are grateful for the things they have done in Kumawu."
