Morocco is set to be named host nation of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), according to Joy Sports sources. The North African country will replace Guinea who were stripped of the hosting rights over delay in making facilities ready for the competition.
Current holders, Senegal, are also to be named hosts of the 2027 edition of the tournement while Nigeria and Benin will be co-hosts of the 2029 tournament.
These countries will be confirmed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as hosts of the next three editions of the premiere national football competition in Africa on Wednesday, September 27.
Algeria and Zambia were also in the running to host the 2025 AFCON, but Zambia has lost out and a compromise reached with Algeria to host the 2027 tournament.
The 2023 AFCON, which was initially scheduled to be hosted in June by Ivory Coast, will now be held in January in the West African country.
The tournament was moved to January 2024 because of weather issues in Ivory Coast, with Ghana sealing qualification in the final round of qualifying.
