Former WAFA midfielder, Majeed Ashimeru, has revealed his most significant memory from the Ghana Premier League was the league game against Hearts of Oak in Sogakope.
The Sogakope-based side thrashed the Phobians at home during the 2017 season with Ashimeru commencing the demolishing.
During that season, Ashimeru and WAFA were in a great run of form on the local season with their home venue being a fortress.
Ashimeru, who left Ghana after two years in Premier League, said that game is his fondest memory from his time in the country’s top flight.
“The most important [memory from the GPL] was the game against Hearts of Oak, the 5-0,” he told the Star Connect team.
“I remember that because a day before the game I was injured and I couldn’t train.
“The director came to tell me a scout from Europe was coming to watch this game so I have to play. I had to take injections and painkillers and I had to play. On the field I didn’t play my favourite position, I had to play on the left wing to protect myself.”
That result is Hearts' worst defeat in the Ghanaian topflight league since the 1956/1957 season.
