The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has reassured party members that security arrangements are in place to ensure a free and fair presidential primary on January 31.
Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Nana B explained that the decision to deploy police officers at polling stations, some of whom will be armed, is to safeguard against potential threats, which may originate from outside the party.
“It’s not a bad idea. You don’t know the external threats that may come, and they may not even come from the NPP. A lot of delegates are going to the polls, and the police have to be prepared,” he said.
He clarified that security personnel positioned close to voting centres will not carry rifles, while officers stationed further away will be armed to protect the surrounding areas.
“Every polling station will have some men deployed. Not all of them will hold rifles, but security is very important and must be protected during elections,” Nana B added.
The NPP organiser urged party supporters to remain calm and respect the outcome of the primaries.
“Support anyone who wins. I can assure you that no one can rig this election,” he emphasised, seeking to quell any concerns about potential manipulation.
