The Volta Regional Police Command has begun investigations into the murder of 32-year-old Julius Sablah, also known as D-Black, and the subsequent mob attack on the Ehi Police Station on Tuesday, November 4, 2025
A press release signed by Chief Inspector Francis Kwaku Gomado, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Volta Regional Police Command, said preliminary investigations revealed that on Monday, November 3, at about 2100 hours, suspect Kofi Agbavitor, 25, allegedly stabbed the victim with a jackknife during a confrontation, leading to his death.
The suspect was reportedly chased by some irate youth after the act, but managed to run to the police station for protection.
The release noted that the crowd demanded his immediate release to mete out instant justice, a request the police declined.
The situation escalated when the group mobilised and launched an attack on the police station using stones, clubs, and other weapons, damaging property including television sets, office stationery, and other equipment.
The mob also set ablaze an exhibit vehicle and vandalised two police vehicles belonging to the District Command.
Police personnel on duty were attacked, while the suspect was beaten until he fell unconscious.
A reinforcement team was later deployed to restore calm and ensure the safety of officers and the suspect.
Three injured police officers and the suspect were rushed to the St. Anthony Hospital in Dzodze, where they are currently receiving medical attention.
The statement added that CCTV and other video footage of the attack are being reviewed to identify and arrest all perpetrators involved to face prosecution.
Meanwhile, the Ehi Police Station has been temporarily closed as investigations continue.
The Volta Regional Police Command has urged the public, particularly the youth, to refrain from mob actions and resort to lawful means of resolving disputes rather than engaging in violence.
