Member of Parliament for North Dayi, Rockson Dafeamekpor has said that the demise of the former President Jerry John Rawlings is a great loss to the NDC party.
The former President died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after a short illness.
Speaking to a JoyNews' journalist, Kwesi Parker Wilson, on Friday, Mr. Dafeamekpor disclosed that this is a loss for both the NDC party and Ghana's political fraternity.
"It’s a terrible blow to the NDC and to our body politics as well as everything because of what he brings to bear in our general political discourse,” he uttered.
Mr. Dafeamekpor believes that the late Jerry John Rawlings had massive support from the people and that his demise might hamper the NDC's chances in the election 2020 campaign.
“J.J. commands such a massive following, even a lot of people still say if J.J. stands for elections they will vote for him,” he added.
But he also believes there is also a bright side to this.
“I think that his departure will rather galvanize the base; those who are disillusioned, those who are disappointed with a lot of things, those who are sad, those who have regretted, all the people who are sharing one emotion or the other.
"It will rather galvanize everybody to wake up and say that let us win this for J.J. Rawlings, that's my belief," he added.
