Test your fertility before marriage – Would-be couples urged

Founder of Roar Time Ministries International and Prophet, Ekow Daniels, has urged would-be couples to make fertility tests a priority before marriage.

He said this in response to a 41-year-old woman who confessed on Joy Prime’s morning show on Thursday about getting pregnant for another man after 11 years of marriage because her wedded husband could not impregnate her.

Due to their struggle with childbirth, the husband’s family blamed the woman and got the man to marry another woman. But three years after the second marriage, his new wife also could not conceive.

This triggered her idea of having a sexual affair with another man to prove her innocence because she was approaching menopause and did not want to grow old without a child.

According to the anonymous woman in a voiced-over letter aired on the Secrets and Confessions segment of the show, curiosity led her into the act because she needed to be sure she was not the cause of the childlessness.

"Earlier this year, I met a man who showed interest in me, and we went out on a few dates. He’s a married man who knew I was married as well, so neither of us was deceiving the other. Our intimacy wasn’t really out of love, but simply because I wanted to see if I was barren or not. Needless to say, this man has been able to do what my husband could not do for 11 years. After a few months together, I’m pregnant, and the whole thing feels like a dream. I haven’t told him or my husband yet about the pregnancy, but I would have to do that as soon as the signs start appearing all over my body," she confessed.

However, she is scared her husband might request that she terminates the pregnancy because of his pride, which she is not willing to do, although the man involved is married.

But the issue of divorce has been a headache for her since she does not want to raise her offspring as a single parent. She therefore asked for help on how to deal with the situation.

Using the 41-year-old woman’s story as a case study, Prophet Daniels stated that the majority of people, particularly Christians, ignore the fertility test because they do not condone sex before marriage.

"With every issue that happens, we need to check foundationally what happened. What happened before that marriage was instituted? Were there checks and balances medically? And a lot of Christians ignore that portion because they believe that God will do it. Some people even shield themselves with the idea that there shouldn’t be sex before marriage. So they wouldn’t want to have a medical checkup because they seem to defend themselves with biblical doctrines, and that is the problem," he explained.

Prior to that, the reverend minister advised that fertility tests should be one of the major things for would-be couples to ensure that they are compatible for marriage.

This will enable them to avoid circumstances of barrenness throughout their marriage. Nevertheless, he urged couples to frequently go for medical checkups to maintain their health as they grow together.

To women facing similar challenges, Prophet Daniels encouraged them not to "put premium on a prophet or a man of God beyond your husband. Let communication stay in the marriage. Let’s try to talk about it and find solutions."
